Large Event Building Converted to HMOs

Our customer first met us at the 2022 Surrey homebuilding and renovation show and was immediately interested in our range of heating products. He talked about a larger property that he was converting into HMOs and enquired about a future survey in hopes of reducing running costs.

The day after the show, we got back in touch with him, via email, to catch up and explain further details on what we offer. Following this, we spoke on the phone and it was agreed to work out requirements based on floor plans initially to get an idea of what would be needed, as the property was still under construction, making it unsuitable for a survey.

‘My objective is to have a cost-effective heating system which we can also control remotely. Historically we have always gone for combi boilers. We have never previously used electric heating. (Always a first for everything.)’

Over 3 months, we emailed back and forth to discuss the specifics of infrared panels. After this, the property was now in a position for us to do a survey which was booked late September to take place mid-October.

To figure out the best heaters for the job, our surveyor measured every room for the lengths, widths and ceiling heights to figure out the wattages needed to heat every room. The survey didn’t end here however, the next step was to determine the optimal positions for each heater to maximise the spread of infrared rays. Our surveyors are trained in gathering information to provide feasibility studies, cost analysis and CO2 analysis. They also use a thermal imaging gun to determine colder areas in a room and utilise these skills to provide recommendations as accurately as possible.

With accurate room dimensions, we were now able to finalise and send over a personalised quotation based on the volume of each room. All rooms to be heated were quoted for and given the most appropriate solution, according to his preferences.

The building was still in the process of being converted into HMOs so we touched base once more in December to keep track of the project and how it was progressing and the works were moving along nicely.

Once one of the areas of the property was complete, the initial order was placed for the first 2 heaters to ensure he was happy with how well they performed as trial before going ahead with the whole property.

The feedback for the products was positive and after answering a couple questions he had regarding EPC ratings (answers to which can be found in this blog post: https://www.warm4less.com/news/epc-ratings) there were conversations regarding the purchase of the remaining panels, and so more panels were installed.

This project is still ongoing, and more rooms are yet to be completed but the customer is very happy with his decision to use infrared heating panels:

‘…I think you underestimate the amount of heat these [heaters] throw out. Very pleased so far.’
