A Quick Fix Solution To Mould and Damp
According to the charity, Shelter, there are around 1 million rented homes in the UK that suffer from mould and damp. Mould and damp are a serious issue in the UK and if not treated quickly, can pose serious health risks. Mould and damp can cause issues such as nasal congestion, wheezing, chest tightness, coughing and throat irritation and if left untreated can lead to reduced lung function and even asthma.
It is clear that these health issues are posing a serious risk to the health of tenants throughout the UK as a new law has come into place as of March 2019 saying that tenants may be able to take their landlords to court over mould and damp in the home.
The Fitness for Human Habitation Act 1985 will now change to say that the local authorities will be able to access and investigate the conditions in homes. The amendments will make the landlords accountable for the state of the property.
Polly Neate, chief executive of Shelter (a registered charity that campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing in England and Scotland) said to ‘The Sun’ that the new Fitness for Human Habitation Act will give tenants the power that is required to tackle bad living conditions which will help tenants to combat the mould and damp in their homes. It will also ensure landlords resolve the issue quickly and efficiently.
Living in these conditions is very tough. Mould and damp are a serious problem in the UK and it is not an easy solution to fix in a lot of cases. While it is great that there is now a law in place to say it is the landlords’ responsibility, this isn’t always the quickest process and can take a lot of time. Far infrared is a proven method of killing mould and spores within the home in a quick amount of time.
Mould is usually caused by general home activities such as cooking, warm showers etc which create condensation on the walls which is due to lack of ventilation in the property. Infrared works exactly the same way as the sun does. It’s the same concept as when you hang your clothes out to dry in the summer. Putting an infrared panel in a room with dampness will dry out the walls and make the room an inhabitable environment for mould to grow. It is a quick fix to reduce the mould in your home without having to use strong chemicals. The chemicals may work to get rid of the first layer of mould but it doesn’t change the reasons why the mould grows due to dampness and bad ventilation whereas infrared actually dries the fabric of the room.
Infrared is a great option if you are renting a property that suffers from mould or if you are a landlord who is struggling to find a quick easy way to reduce mould and damp in your properties. The infrared requires no major works to a property, unlike other forms of heating. You simply pop it on a stand or hook it on the wall and plug it in. So easy!
